ST. Johns Diving Safari
ST. Johns – The Far South safari route, considered one of the easier ones, is recommended for people with less diving experience. This does not change the fact that divers with longer experience will not be bored either. This route is rich in diving on the most beautiful reefs of the Red Sea, full of pinnacles and tunnels, inhabited by various species of marine animals. During the safari, in addition to exciting encounters with sharks and turtles, participants will have a unique opportunity to snorkel with dolphins in the famous Dolphin House.
st. John’s is a group of reefs at the southern end of the Red Sea, near the border with Sudan. This is one of the most remote and unspoilt dive sites in Egypt, offering a variety of dive sites that will blow you away with their beauty and diversity. You can snorkel in coral gardens, walls, caves, wrecks and pinnacles that are home to a rich marine life including sharks, dolphins, turtles, stingrays and colorful fish. st. John’s is accessible by full board boats departing from Marsa Alam or Hamata. The best diving season in St. John’s is from April to November when the weather is warm and dry and the water is clear.
Some of the most popular dive sites in St. John’s is:
– Habili Ali: It is a sunken reef that rises from the deep sea and has a plateau on its northern side that attracts many pelagic fish such as tuna, horse mackerel, barracuda and archer. The main attraction here, however, are the sharks. You can see hammerheads, ocean whitetip, threshers, silkheads and reefs around the reef. The depth ranges from 10 to 40 meters and the currents can be strong.
– Habili Gafaar: This is another sunken reef that has a similar shape and features to Habili Ali. It also has a plateau on its northern side that is frequented by sharks and other large fish. The depth is between 15 and 40 meters and the currents can be strong.
– Dangerous Reef: Despite its ominous name, Dangerous Reef is no more dangerous than other reefs. The name came about because sharks were often found sleeping in caves to the south. Reef marks the southernmost point of the St. John’s and lies 30 km from the mainland. It has a length of 410 m and provides a safe berth for the night and is therefore very frequented. The reef has steep walls that drop to over 100 meters and is covered with soft corals,
gorgonians, sponges and sea anemones. You can also see shoals of surgeons,
fusiliers, horse mackerel,
archers and barracudas.
– Gota Kebira: This is the largest of the St. John’s and lies 7 km southeast of Umm Arouk. It has impressive walls that drop to more than 100 meters and are decorated with coral formations and overhangs. The northern and southern plateaus are the best places to spot sharks such as hammerheads, threshers, oceanic whitetip and gray reef sharks. You can also see shoals of surgeons, fusiliers, horse mackerel, archers and barracudas.
– Abu Basala: This is a long reef that lies in the heart of St. Jana and provides a sheltered berth for the night. The reef has many coral pinnacles and blocks that create a maze for divers to explore. Here you can see turtles, stingrays, octopus, moray eels, lionfish and other reef fish.
st. John’s is a dive site that is breathtaking in its beauty and diversity. You will see some of the most amazing views of the Red Sea and witness the power and grace of nature. st. John’s is a must-have for any diver who loves adventure and excitement.
